"Poet of Šumava", writer, painter, and educationalist. His works are significantly influenced by the knowledge of the beauties of the mysterious Šumava nature and the hard destinies of their inhabitants. He was a critic of the then strained relations between the Czech and German populations of the Czech Crown. In Horní Planá you can visit his birth house and museum. Below the top of Plechý mountain (1311m), above the shore of Plešné Lake, there is his memorial from a stone obelisk.
