Faustin Karel Klostermann
* 1848 in Haag am Hausruck, +1923 in Štěkeň
A writer, a representative of realism and so-called rural prose, whose collected writings contained over forty volumes of novels, short stories, feuilletons, sketches and memoirs. His work masterfully captures the life and traditions of the Šumava inhabitants as well as the close connection between man and nature. He focused on capturing the typical lifestyle, livelihood of the inhabitants of Šumava and the phenomenon of worldliness. He also paid attention to the changes that Šumava and its inhabitants went through, whether it was the disintegration of the traditional family, the devastating storms, the arrival of the business element associated on the one hand with large assets, on the other with the crisis of traditional crafts. The personality of the "writer of Šumava" today is commemorated by the primary school and square in Železná Ruda, Klostermann's cottage in Modrava, Klostermann's lookout tower in Javorník, Klostermann's lookout near Srní, Klostermann's trail from Nicov to the Kašperské Mountains, etc.
